Published this year, Women and Ideas in Engineering: Twelve Stories of Illinois, by Laura D. Hahn and Angela S. Wolters, features the bronze sculpture by Julie Rotblatt-Amrany titled the “Quintessential Engineer” for the University of Illinois Engineering-Micro Nano Technology Lab in 2017.
An overview of the book notes “the increasing presence of women within engineering programs is one of today’s most dramatic developments in higher education. Long before, however, a group of talented and determined women carved out new paths in the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois. Laura D. Hahn and Angela S. Wolters bring to light the compelling hidden stories of these pioneering figures. The stories of the women highlighted in the book bring to life the forgotten history of women in engineering and provide a view of where more women in STEM fields shape a better tomorrow with their innovative work.”
The authors felt that “Quinn”, as the sculpture is affectionately known, was the perfect choice for the book’s cover.
