David Beckham‘s sculpture was unveiled Saturday, March 2nd, 2019 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California prior to the club’s season opener. Although it was raining in the Los Angeles area, the star-studded event and presentation of the bronze sculpture made it a beautiful day. “David Beckham in Action” consists of a 9-foot figure on top of a base that measures 8′ x 5′ x 4′. The bronze figure has the LA Galaxy team colors and a granite base and features an engraved photo of the international sports star.
The statue is the first for an MLS player who was also the first well-known European player to join the league. Beckham led the team to back-to-back championships in 2011 and 2012. The statue unveiling capped off a busy weekend for Beckham who also opened a soccer field for underprivileged children in downtown Los Angeles.
The piece was commissioned by MLS‘s LA Galaxy and was designed and created by Julie Rotblatt-Amrany and Omri Amrany.
