Overcome Winter Blues with Chicago Art

As winter drags on with the cold, short daylight hours, and snow, it’s easy to begin to feel just…blah.  Perk yourself up by taking in an art exhibition or two this season.  Here are three exhibits that are not to be missed this winter in the Chicago area:

1. “Reading Women” by Carrie Schneider at Monique Meloche Gallery.  Are you inspired by words as much as visual art?  Experience both with this multimedia exhibit.  Schneider videotaped female artists reading their favorite books by women authors and then edited it to create an inspiring mixture of words and pictures.

2. “Aroundcenter” by Jan Tichy at the Chicago Cultural Center.  Have you ever wanted to explore the Chicago Cultural Center and experience all of its beauty?  Now you have an excuse.  Tichy has created nine site-specific art installations throughout the building, some in rarely seen spaces.  Can you find them all?

3. “The Fifth Dimension” at Logan Center Gallery.  Seven artists give their interpretation of what the fifth dimension of space may look and behave like.  During the two-month installation, the artists will adapt and change their work, making a return visit a must.

When winter is at its worst, interesting art can be your escape.  Lucky for us, Chicago has some of the most interesting exhibits to offer this winter.
