Fine Art Studio of Rotblatt & Amrany Announces Unveiling of Statue for Four Winds Field at Stanley Coveleski Stadium

Fine Art Studio of Rotblatt Amrany is proud to announce the unveiling of a life-size, 6-foot bronze statue honoring Major League Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher, Stanley Coveleski. The unveiling will take place at 5:00 pm on opening day, Tuesday, April 8th inside the center field gate at the stadium formerly known as “Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium.” The ballpark was recently renamed “Four Winds Field” in September 2013, but it has displayed Coveleski’s name since opening in 1987.

The statue to be installed is just one of the many improvements to be made to the stadium home to the South Bend Silver Hawks over the next 10 years. A new partnership between the team and The Four Winds Casino makes the renovations possible. The commemorative bronze statue to be installed is designed by Fine Art Studio of Rotblatt Amrany artists, Lou Cella, and Jessica LoPresti.

“We are excited to have this sculpture installed at Four Winds Field as part of the major renovations happening at the stadium here, and hope that this statue of Stan Coveleski represents his legacy and his history in the local community,” said Lou.

Stanley Coveleski played on several Major League teams in the early 1900s, such as the Cleveland Indians, Washington Senators, and New York Yankees. He retired to South Bend, IN after his Hall of Fame career, and was a cherished member of the community. He was well known for providing free pitching lessons to local South Bend youths in a field behind his garage. Coveleski was famed in his career for throwing the spitball, a pitch where the baseball is coated with a substance such as chewing tobacco. This pitch was legal at the start of Coveleski’s career, but was outlawed in 1920.
