The Mysterious Great Sphinx of Giza
The mysterious Great Sphinx of Giza continues to sit majestically in front of the three Great Pyramids in Egypt and continues to baffle scientists and enthusiasts alike. The massive sculpture faces east and is the largest ever found from the ancient world and stands over sixty feet high and over two hundred feet long.
It appears to be a statue of a half human, half lion creature. The beard and the nose of the statue are missing and there seems to be a tiny temple embraced within the paws of the statue. Since its creation, the Sphinx had been long buried until the Egyptian pharaoh Tuthmosis the Fourth had a dream that the statue was suffocating and decided to start the digging. He also started digging because the Sphinx told him in the dream that if he unearthed the great statue, more land and riches were assured to come the pharaoh’s way.
Whether the statue is based on anyone is a hotly debated subject in Sphinx circles. One fact seems sure, though. It does appear as if the head has been carved and then re-carved and chiseled several times. This seems a likely explanation to those Egyptologists who can’t otherwise explain why the creature’s head is so much smaller than it should be for the size of the body upon which it sits.
In 1989, Robert Bauval published an article in which he claimed to discover that the three great pyramids were in perfect scale alignment, and identical to, the three stars of the Orion’s Belt constellation.
There has always been talk and speculation about tunnels and secret passages located in and around the Great Sphinx. Even the legendary clairvoyant Edgar Cayce declared that the complete Akashic records are buried beneath one of the paws. The Akashic records include the history of the planet including the entire history of Atlantis. Many credible scholars have also formed well researched propositions believing that the Giza plateau, including the pyramids, were built by an extraterrestrial race that came from the constellation of Orion.
In 1995 workers who were reconstructing a parking lot unearthed tunnels and passages that seem to lead directly beneath the Sphinx. Prior to that, in 1991 and 1993, excavators using seismographs around the paws discovered that there were, indeed, hollow caverns or rooms beneath the paws of the Sphinx. The government of Egypt has always forbidden any attempts at excavating beneath the paws and mainstream scientists do not give any credence to extraterrestrial architects despite certain historical evidence and documentation.
The great statue and enigma continues to be assaulted by smog, wind, and blowing sand. As much as Egypt is determined to rescue the great monolith, the statue continues to break down and deteriorate and may, eventually, disappear altogether.
