Walter Johnson

Walter “The Big Train” Johnson – Sports Commission Bronze Statue

Walter ‘The Big Train” Johnson is still considered one of the best pitchers in all of baseball history. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936. In this unconventional approach to sports statues, Walter Johnson is captured as a motion in time. Artist Omri Amrany describes it as conveying the fourth dimension in art. The ‘Johnson Pitch’ is portrayed as a larger than life 8-foot tall bronze figure. He stands alongside Frank Howard and Josh Gibson in the Center Field Plaza at Nationals Park in Washington, DC.
