Art Institute of Chicago Voted Best Art Museum in U.S.
The Art Institute of Chicago was recently voted the Best Art Museum in the US by the Trip Advisors Travelers Choice Attractions Awards. It was a reader’s award as readers voted on their favorite museums throughout the world and based their opinions on the quality of the museum. Not only did the Art Institute finish as the number one museum in America but it was ranked number three in the entire world.
The mighty bronze lions that guard the entrance reflect the grand spectacle that is the Art Institute. Trip Advisors’ comments included the fact that the Art Institute has art representative of many various periods as well as considering the building and the interior a stand alone work of art itself. The Art Institute is over one million square feet and is the second largest museum in the United States after New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The other top five ranked museums in the United States include: The Frick Collection of New York City; The National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC; The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City; and The Arizona-Senora Desert Museum in Tuscon.
Rounding out the top five ranked museums in the world were: The State Hermitage Museum and WinterPalace in Saint Petersburg; The National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City; The Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem; The Hagia Sofia Museum in Istanbul and The Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum in Poland.
